Dry cupping is where cups are applied and left on the skin for a few minutes to create suction. This increases blood circulation and stretches the fascia and muscle tissue.
Dry cupping can reduce pain, aid recovery from illness, help to reduce stress and tension, improve digestive flow and help re-align the body’s energy as well as improve energy levels. It can also help remove oedema from an injured area.
The suction caused from the cups will bring new blood flow to the area and draw stagnant blood out of the area through suction. The cups often leave red/blue marks on the skin for a few days as a result of the blood pooling.
In Sports Therapy, dry cupping can be incorporated to reduce musculoskeletal tensions and assist in restoring range of movement.
